PURPOSE:To detect an accurate ink residual amt. without increasing the cost of an ink cartridge. CONSTITUTION:A discrimination data reader 10 reads the discriminator 9 of the ink cartridge 5 mounted on a carriage to discriminate the ink cartridge 5. When the read ink cartridge 5 is the ink cartridge 5 stored in a non-volatile memory 7, a control part 1 resumes the counting of the consumption amt. of ink from the value corresponding to the stored ink cartridge 5 and, when the read ink cartridge 5 is other ink cartridge 5 not stored in the non-volatile memory 7, the control part 1 counts the consumption amt. of ink from an initial value. When the counted consumption amt. of ink becomes a predetermined value or more, the control part 1 displays that the residual amt. of the ink in the ink cartridge 5 becomes little on an ink residual amt. display device 6 to issue a warning to a user. |
