Linear motor supplied by conductive tracks and having arc suppression

The linear motor has a stator rail (1) presenting a succession of active or passive stator poles, and two conductor tracks (C1,C2), connected respectively to the positive and negative poles of a direct current source. The mobile part of the motor has two coils (B1,B2) supplied through sliding contacts (CT1-CT4) that run along the conductor tracks to provide the current for the coils. The conductors forming the tracks are crenellated, with one interlaced with the other, so that the sliding contacts alternately connect to the positive and the negative supply potential. There are two auxiliary tracks (C3,C4) outside the primary tracks. A set of sliding contacts (CT5-CT8) runs on these tracks. The primary contacts are connected to the auxiliary contacts through diodes (D1-D8) that provide energy diversion during switching.
