The appliance (1) includes a drive module (3) which a diver uses to direct the appliance. A cleaning module (5) and a device for collecting waste are also coupled to the drive module. The drive module includes an electrically supplied drive unit and steering controls for directing the appliance on and under the water. The steering controls include a depth and inclination rudder, a rear diving rudder (43) and a steering rudder (51) activated by the diver. Adjustment devices (28) are situated at the front and rear of the drive module and are supplied with compressed air to position the pitching of the apparatus in the water. The module has flexible inflatable pockets which act as a ballast tank to allow diving or resurfacing. Two cylindrical compartments are positioned on a steel support hoop (63) and each compartment has an access hatch and contains a waste bag.
