Gas generator has a filter unit with a wire mesh filter (6) with a continuous variation in density in axial and/or radial direction. The density continuously decreases in the axial direction, beginning at the connection to the combustion chamber housing (2). In the radial direction, density increases from the filter axis. The mounting nut (8) is designed as a rounded cone within the filter.
