The invention relates to the use of amine neutralized phosphate esters as cross-linking catalysts in the preparation of paint or coating compositions based on hydroxy-functional resins and also containing an amino cross-linking agent and a pigment. Cured coatings exhibiting enhanced gloss, flexibility, hardness and solvent resistance are obtained.
