The present invention relates to syringes (2) which are disabled after use by the retraction of the needle. The invention provides a bias by means of a negative pressure or a spring (72) produced by the movement of the plunger (8) away from one-way valves (36). The negative pressure produced in cooperation with the collapse of the syringe body (10) will force the plunger (8) to go through its full travel, involuntarily of the operator's actions. When the travel of the plunger is completed. cutting means (64, 66) detach the needle (60) from the syringe body (10), and captures the needle (60) inside the body (10) of the syringe (2) where it makes the used syringe safe. The invention provides the advantage over prior art syringes which require a voluntary act on the part of the operator to disable them, by making the disablement of the syringe (2) an involuntary action.
