Pattern printing process for strips or sheets

The printing process comprises making a pattern (10) on an endless carrier belt (20). The pattern is then transferred from the carrier belt to the strip or sheet (50) on which it is being printed. A removable layer (70) is added to the patterned side of the carrier belt. This layer is at least partly transparent. Lacquer, in liquid or powder form, may be used for this purpose. The pattern may be transferred to this layer before then being transferred to the strip or sheet. After transfer of the pattern, the carrier belt is cleaned.
