A compound of Formula (1) and salts thereof wherein A is optionally substituted phenyl or optionally substituted naphthyl; R<1> is NR<4>R<5>; R<2> is H, halo, -COOH, -SO2OH, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, or optionally substituted alkylthio; R<3>, R<4> and R<5> are each independently H or optionally substituted alkyl; T is H or sulpho; and B is H, optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; provided that the compound does not contain a piperazinyl group. The compound is suitable for use as a black colorant in ink jet printing inks especially for printing on plain paper.
