DIAPHRAGM PUMP WITH MAGNETIC ACTUATOR

A diaphragm pump has a magnetic actuator. A permanent magnetic assembly (17) is secured to the outside face of the diaphragm (10) of the pump and provides at least a pair of opposed magnetic pole faces (21, 22) directed away from the diaphragm (10). An electromagnet assembly (18) has at least a pair of opposite poles (19, 20) located opposite but spaced from the pole faces of the permanent magnet assembly (18). Energising the electromagnet (18) with alternating current, alternately repels and attracts the permanent magnet assembly (17), thereby reciprocating the diaphragm (10) to operate the pump.
