The heat exchanger has vertical tubes (1), close together, with fins (2) around them. Apertures (3) are made in the fins, in line with each other, in the axial direction of the tube. This enables the water to flow away freely. A water column forms up the height of the finned tube. The weight of this column overcomes the clinging tendency of the water, which flows freely down from the interstices.
