The proposed method of electrostatically applying powder coatings to non-conducting objects involves the application of a closed layer of a conducting substance at least to the surface regions to be coated. The vaporization or evaporation temperature of the conducting substance in question is below the burn-in temperature of the powder coating. Once the layer of conducting material has been applied, the powder coating is applied directly to the layer electrostatically and burnt in. The particular conducting substance proposed is water.
