Prevention of unwanted crystal growth in gas scrubbing suspensions

To prevent unwanted crystallisation of solids in suspensions used for exhaust gas scrubbing, the water containing sulphate and pref. reaction products (1) in a watery form with a sulphate content are diverted from the desulphurising assembly (8) for the exhaust gas into a container (2). In the container, it is treated with a part flow of fresh calcium hydrate suspension (5) for a sufficient reaction time for sulphate precipitation. At the station (4) to quench the quicklime, water (3) with a low sulphate content is added to give a fine grain calcium hydrate suspension with insignificant grit formation.
