Radially shrinkable cylindrical sleeve for cable connections or cable ends

The sleeve has an outer screen with both an insulating and field controlling region made of permanent elastic material held in a radially extended state by a removable mechanical support like a helix. The inner field control region and at least a part of the insulating region are made of a single layer (14) of homogeneous insulating material with a relative dielectric constant that is greater than that of the cable insulation. The inner layer consists of a matrix of dielectric and microscopic balls which are either fully conducting, or just conducting on the surface, their diameter being between 10 and 500 microns.
