<p>An apparatus (10) is provided for controlling discharge of fuel vapor (44) from a fuel tank (12). Apparatus (10) includes a valve housing (58) mounted in a wall (40) of tank (12). Valve housing (58) is formed to include an inlet opening (76) communicating with an interior region (38) of fuel tank (12), an outlet opening (46), and a passageway interconnecting inlet opening (76) and outlet opening (46). Apparatus (10) also includes a float valve (80) and a skirt (54). Float valve (80) is disposed in valve housing (58) and movable between open and closed positions. Skirt (54) is positioned to lie inside tank (12) and extend around valve housing (58) to define an annular channel (78) conducting fuel vapor (44) from interior region (38) to inlet opening (76). Skirt (54) has a bottom edge (56) that is positioned to lie in coextensive relation with a top surface (22) of fuel (20) in interior region (38) once the volume of fuel (20) in tank (12) is equal to a predetermined maximum fuel capacity of tank (12).</p> |
