Continuous manufacture of axially welded tubing from strip

Metal tubes are made in an installation consisting of a coil stand (1) holding a flat metal strip coil (2) which is wound off continuously. Both edges of the strip are trimmed at (4), the offcuts being passed around a bolt, or bolts (17) and then wound on driven reels (16). After trimming the strip is formed through (5) into a tube with an open slot which is then welded at station (9). The tube is drawn through at station (13). The disposal of the trimmed offcuts which are coiled under tension controlled by brakes.
