In a belt retractor for seat belts in motor vehicles, a belt tautener is provided with pyrotechnic drive (11). It can be triggered via a sensor (10) by means of an electric firing element. The belt spool (2) is coupled to the rotor and the housing of the belt retractor is coupled to the stator of a current generator (3 to 7) whose connections are connected to a current collector (9).
