PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent magnetic recording and reproducing system by combining a magnetic recording medium contg. barium ferrite having specific characteristics and ferrite head having a specific gap length. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium of which the magnetic layer has >=0.7 ratio between residual magnetic flux density Br and coercive force Hc in the vertical direction and <=1,000 Hc, contains barium ferrite particles and has <=0.08mum surface roughness and the ferrite head of which the head material consists of an oxide having Bs=5,000-6,000 and of which the head gap length is <=0.9mum are combined. The characteristics are drastically deteriorated and the medium does not withstand use when the surface roughness exceeds 0.08mum. Drop of -8--10dB is resulted and the characteristics of the high-density recording medium are not obtainable when the gap of the ferrite head is >=0.5mum. |
