PURPOSE:To obtain an antihypertensive agent containing a deoxyribonucleic acid or its treated product as an active ingredient, having an excellent antihypertensive action, free from side effects and toxicity, excellent in the fact-acting property and persistence of the medicinal effect, and useful for preventing and treating hypertension. CONSTITUTION:This antihypertensive agent contains a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) obtained from Enterococcus faecali cells, the organ of an animal, such as a thymus, or its treated product as an active ingredient. The DNA as the active ingredient is obtained e.g. by inoculating the cells of the Enterococcus faecali on a liquid medium, culturing the cells, collecting the cultured cells from the culture medium, preparing the suspension of the cells, adding lysozyme to the suspension, recovering the produced protoplast cells, breaking the cells, removing proteins with an organic solvent, and subsequently fractionating the residue by a centrifugal method, a winding-up method, etc. The dose of the objective antihypertensive agent is preferably 0.001-0.1g/kg body a day as the amount of the active ingredient. |
