PURPOSE:To provide a metallic support comprising an S-shape or comma-shape type metal honeycomb and a metal casing which has a good separation preventive function and durability in both axial and radial directions. CONSTITUTION:In a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas in which a desired number of stacks S1-Sn (n is an integer of 1 or more) which are formed by laminating alternately plain belts 1 and corrugated belts 2, which are made of thin metal plates, in a desired number of stages are molded by winding so that the plain belts l and corrugated belts 2 of the stacks are brought into contact with the inner wall surface of a surrounding metal casing, a metal support MS is composed of a metal honeycomb H1 and a metal casing C in which the honeycomb H1 is placed. In the stacks (S1-Sn), a desired number of the plain belts 1 and/or the corrugated belts 2, which constitute the stack, are thicker than others, and the metal casing C has fixing parts which fix the ends of thicker belts to its inner wall surface. |
