PURPOSE: To obtain a treating agent for preserving mechanical properties, especially tensile strength, elasticity and swelling ratio in an aqueous medium of keratinous superficial body growths against deterioration with light. CONSTITUTION: This treating agent for keratinous superficial body growths contains at least one bioflavonoid and/or at least one citrus bioflavonoid selected from a compound represented by formula I (R is a sugar group; A is H or a 1-4C alkoxy; B and C are each H, OH or a 1-4C alkoxy) or a compound represented by formula II [R1 is 6-O-(6-deoxy-α-L-mannopyranosyl)-β-D- glucopyranosyl; R2 is a 1-4C alkoxy] in an amount of 0.001-10 wt.%, preferably 0.005-5 wt.% based on the total amount of the composition. Furthermore, a reducing agent selected from cysteine, erythorbic acid and an alkali(ne-earth) metal salt of metabisulfite is formulated to afford a stable treating agent. The keratin treated with the treating agent has cosmetic properties of improved easiness of disentangling and styling, softness and suppleness, etc.
