PURPOSE:To enable heating of a microregion and to suppress generation of microcracks and change in optical characteristics by combining a heating means by open type reflection radiation and heating means by a laser. CONSTITUTION:Two pieces of optical fibers 3 with clad parts exposed are arranged in tight contact with each other in parallel by means of jigs. Heat radiators 2 for radiating heat radiating ray fluxes are arranged to face the tight contact region of the optical fibers 3 arranged in parallel therewith. In such a case, the respective radiation heaters 2 are preferably the radiators capable of uniformly heating the tight contact part of the optical fibers 3 to its softening point or above and the fusion initiating temp. or below, more preferably the softening point or above and the m. p. or below. On the other hand, a laser beam source is so arranged that the tight contact part of the optical fibers 3 is irradiated with the laser beam from the opened direction of the heat radiators 2. The laser beam 1 is capable of fusing the tight contact part of the optical fibers 3, more specifically the laser beam 1 is moved by moving the laser or using a mirror. |
