PURPOSE:To provide an image forming material which has a good preservable property and is capable of forming images with a high sensitivity and high resolution and an excellent image forming method using this image forming material. CONSTITUTION:This image forming material has a layer 1 contg. a primary amine or a precursor capable of releasing ammonia and/or the primary amine and a layer 2 contg. a compd. which is decolored or colored by the ammonia and/or the primary amine on at least one surface on a base material 3. A layer 4 selected from a layer contg. a polymerizable compd. and a polymn. initiator, a layer contg. a depolymerizable compd. and a barrier layer is disposed between the two layers 1 and 2 of the image forming material described above.
