The ski is equipped with a device (2) designed to modify its rigidity and/or damp vibrations. This consists of an elongated member (3) which is situated lengthwise and connected at one end to the ski by a rigid fixing at one end while its other end is able to move lengthwise relative to the ski. The movable end of the elongated member is connected to a variable resistance, either in the form of friction shoes or a liquid/gas damper comprising a sealed chamber (20) containing the gas or fluid and a piston (21) on the end of the lengthwise element which moves inside the chamber. The chamber increases progressively in cross-section, so that the resistance to the piston diminishes from one end of the chamber to the other.
