<p>PURPOSE: To provide an expandable stent, which can be expanded to a very large diameter by placing a plurality of continuous cylinder elements, which can expand independently and radially and are placed along the longitudinal axis of the stent, crosswise against the longitudinal axis and by forming the cylinder elements into plural irregular wave patterns. CONSTITUTION: This stent 10 comprises cylinder elements 12 that are independently and radially expandable. The cylinder elements 12 are coaxially placed and interconnected by a member 13. A part of the cylinder elements 12 of the stent 10 is formed into an irregular wave pattern having a plurality of crests and troughs to assist uniform dispersion of the expansion force. A part 34 of the trough area, to which the interconnecting member 13 is connected, shows the largest rigidity and the crest parts 36 show the smallest rigidity when the stent is deformed and expanded. The crest parts 36 have different curvatures in areas 32 and 33 to unify stress, and the area 32 has a larger radius and expands easily than the area 33 does. The area 33 is adjacent to a part 34, which is an area having larger rigidity and these expand uniformly and disperse the expanding tension more uniformly.</p> |
