A loading wagon 10 has a wagon frame 12 supported on on-track undercarriages 13 and a bulk material hopper 30 for receiving bulk material 26 such as ballast. Conveyor belts 19, 20, extending in the longitudinal direction of the wagon 10, transfer bulk material 26 to and from the hopper 30. A section of one of the conveyor belts 19, which extends through a first hopper outlet opening 48, forms part of the base of the hopper 30.
