Combustion reactor for soot in a compression-ignition engine exhaust filter

The reactor consists of a filter element (11) traversed by channels (12) and located inside a metal casing (7) with a gas inlet (7a) and an outlet (7b) connected to an exhaust pipe (6). The reactor has a second, coaxial outer casing (8), forming an annular circulation chamber (8) round the inner one and made to receive a tangential gas inlet pipe. The closed end (14) of the outer casing has a concave inner surface which directs the circulating gas from the annular chamber to the inlet (7a) of the inner casing. The concave surface is toroid in shape and has a straight axial channel (16) equipped with a transparent stopper (17) through which the operation of the reactor can be observed by means of a video camera.
