The centrifugal separation of a flotation mixture containing fine particles, for example of a biological sludge, into a disperse first solid component containing bubbles and a bubble-free, disperse second solid component is performed, in order to increase the sorting effect and the mass flow rate compared with such a separation in hydrocyclones, in such a way that the suspension mixture is delivered continuously and carefully onto the centre of a rotating bowl-shaped surface (centrifuge rotor 1) in such a manner as to prevent the detachment of bubbles from the water-repellant particles, and, after preliminary acceleration, is dispersed into a thin suspension layer (4) expanding in the flow direction. A transverse flow separation in the centrifugal force field thus takes place under the effect of buoyancy and acceleration forces. Two layers, each having an enriched component, are formed, are separated from one another at the edge of the rotor (1), which is open at one side, by means of a coaxial circular cutting edge (6) and are removed individually. In the feed channel for the suspension there is provided, for the preliminary acceleration of the suspension mixture (4) in the direction of rotation, a swell apparatus (11) and, upstream of the mouth of the feed channel at the bottom (2) of the rotor (2), a blade ring (13). <IMAGE> |
