GAS SENSOR

A gas sensor, preferably a lambda probe for determining the pollutant and/or oxygen content of exhaust fumes of internal combustion engines or furnace installations, has a metallic housing provided with fastening means for mounting the gas sensor in an exhaust fume chamber, and a ceramic part arranged inside the metallic housing to receive a sensor carrier with sensor elements. One end of the ceramic part projects into the exhaust fume chamber and the other end of the ceramic part may be connected to electric connections. The gas sensor is characterised in that the ceramic part is secured in the metallic housing in its area exposed to exhaust fumes by means of form-fitting at least in the radial direction, and in that a sealing element is arranged in an area of the ceramic part downstream of the form-fitting area. The sealing element is on the one hand joined to the outer wall of the ceramic part and on the other hand lies in a gastight manner on a wall of the metallic housing.
