The container comprises a baseplate, sidewalls (15A-D) and a cover plate. The walls comprise flexible layers separated by ribs so as to form chambers between them, and they are joined together by folds (16A-D, 17A,B) so as to form a casing (10). The folds are formed by the butting edges, or by one of the layers after the other has been cut through. The bottom edge (12) of the casing is shaped so as to fit in the pallet, the loose baseplate being inserted in it and the loose cover plate being placed on it. The bottom edge can be shaped so as to lock into engagement with the pallet, while being detachable from it.
