A coating composition comprised of: an acid-set coating varnish; and a pigment composition formed of about 0.5 to about 30 parts by weight of an organic dyestuff derivative which is formed by reacting an organic dyestuff and at least one member selected from melamine, benzoguanamine, methylol urea, and alkoxymethylated methylol ureas, and at least one member selected from substituted or non-substituted phthalimide and N-oxyphthalimide, and about 100 parts by weight of at least one organic pigment and/or inorganic pigment, the organic pigment being selected from phthalocyanine pigments, quinacridone pigments, isoindolinone pigments, perylene/perinone pigments, dioxazine pigments, diketopyrrolopyrrole pigments, anthraquinone pigments, and benzimidazolone pigments. The pigment in the coating composition does not flocculate, and the coating composition excels in noncrystallizability and fluidity and has a clear color tone. Gloss and hardness of a coating film are excellent.
