An electric steam iron assembly (10) comprises a base assembly (14), an iron (11) having a sole plate (54), an electric heater in the separate base (14) for heating the sole plate and steam generating chamber, a housing (12) forming a water reservoir (16) with a dam therein, a forward portion (50) and a rearward portion (56) with an iron heel rest and a valve for controlling water flow into the steam generating chamber positioned behind the dam to form a head of water above the valve when the iron rests vertically e.g. on its heel. |
