The invention relates to an anti-theft device for the purses or wallets which are usually kept in ladies' handbags, consisting in a mechanism box which is fastened securely to the bottom of the handbag, which box contains, inside, a hairspring (close-coil spring) to which is linked a chain ending in a spring governor to which the purse or wallet, in turn, is permanently secured. The wallet moves up and down, guided by the expansion and contraction action of the spring as far as the limit set by the actual spring. The chain has means whereby it can be locked to the mechanism box.
