Removal of a volatile hydrocarbon compound from a gaseous mixture to reduce the concentration of said compound. Condensation energy of the hydrocarbon compound or the displacement energy (2) of said compound from an adsorbent (6) to a condenser (3) generates energy, supplying the heat needed to desorb the hydrocarbon compound. The figure demonstrates how the invention is carried out. The invention is for purifying a gas containing hydrocarbon vapours.
