The spiral chain element comprises a refined steel wire core (4) encased by a refined steel spiral (6). The steel wire and spiral are connected together at their two ends with a solid metal connection, eg using a precious metal solder. A medium flowing or soft flowing metal solder can be used.The two free ends of the core can each have a cylindrical precious metal element (7) fixed to the wire. Part of a closure element (11) can be detachably fixed to the protruding free ends of the cylindrical elements (7).
