An aqueous ocular care solution with improved preservative efficacy comprising: 0.0001 to 2.5 weight percent of an amino acid chosen from the group consisting of glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, proline, hydroxyproline, asparagine, glutamine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan, serine, and threonine; and an effective amount of a state of the art contact lens preservative agent.
