The invention provides torsional linkage means for controlling the movement of a pivotally mounted gate (11, 11') of a collapsible storage container (10) wherein a torsion rod (21) is anchored at one of its ends to a bottom corner region of the gate (11, 11') and at its other opposite end to an anchorage on the base (12) of the collapsible container (10), the torsion rod (21) being operable to resist inward swinging movemnt of the gate (11, 11') and function as a flexural and torsional return spring for assisting the upward swinging movement of the gate to an upright position. A latch mechanism (30, 31) is provided so that when the panels (11, 11') are brought together in their collapsed overlapping positions on the base (12), the panels are locked against upward swinging movement and are retained in an approximately flat position on the base (12).
