PURPOSE:To increase capacitance, and improve characteristics of charge and discharge, by making the capacitance per single electrode unit weight to be larger than or equal to a specified value, and making a value which is obtained by dividing the capacitance per single electrode unit weight measured by applying water to solvent by a specific surface area by a nitrogen adsorption method of active carbon to be larger than or equal to a specified value. CONSTITUTION:An electric double layer capacitor has polarizable electrodes formed of active carbon layers 1 and collectors 2, and a separator 3. A pair of the polarizable electrodes are arranged via the separator 3. The active carbon layers 1 and the separator 3 are impregnated with electrolytic solution wherein electrolyte is dissoved in solvent. The capacitance C per single electrode unit weight is larger than or equal to 200F/g. The value C*/S is larger than or equal to 0.07F/m<2>. The value C*/S is obtained by dividing the capacitance C*(F/g) per single weight which is measured by applying water to solvent, by the specific surface area S (m<2>/g) by a nitrogen adsorption method of active carbon. |
