PURPOSE:To provide a camera capable of improving ability for selecting a focusing locus and the ability for tracing locus change in the case of zooming. CONSTITUTION:An AF evaluating signal is picked up from the video signal of an image pickup object, the position of a variable power lens 102 and the position of a focus compensating lens 105 in the case the value of the AF evaluating signal is maximum are found, information for deciding a focusing cam locus to be traced is read from an AF microcomputer 116 based on the positions of the lenses 102 and 105 and the object distance, a standard moving speed Vf0 moving the lens 105 is calculated in order to correct the displacement of a focusing surface caused by the movement of the lens 102 with the read information, and the lens 105 is moved by superposing correcting speeds Vf+ and Vf- on the calculated standard moving speed Vf0 in order to increase/ decrease AF evaluating signal level within a specified range. |
