<p>PURPOSE: To provide a pointing device with excellent durability and high sensitivity that is easily manufactured at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: The cursor controlling pointing device to control a cursor on the screen of a computer has a post 12, a hard base 19 for the post 12, and thick film resistors 14, 15 on the side face of the post 12 and acting like a strain gage sensing torsion in the lateral direction and forward backward directions of the post 12. The thick film resistors 14, 15 are piezoelectric resistors whose resistance is changed with distortion. Two resistor division networks are formed, the one senses a torsion in the X axis direction by the resistor on the left right side faces and the other senses a torsion in the Y axis direction by the resistor on the forward backward side faces. The voltage divided by the network is processed to form a cursor control signal, resulting that a cursor is moved along X, Y coordinates on a display screen of the computer.</p> |
