The gas strut (6) consists of a tubular body (7) in the form of a cylinder with a fixing foot (9) at one of its end and a rod (8) solid to a piston which moves in the body (7). A cylindrical sleeve (11) surrounds the cylinder and the rod which contain on its internal surface a series of grooves (20a,b,c,d), extending from a primary end (11a), and which are terminated by stops (22b,22c).The gas strut is fitted to the rear facing door of a five door vehicle by the fork ends (9,13) and by rotating the sleeve (11) around the axis (10) of the strut its extension can be varied.
