A multi-purpose storage unit arranged above a typical work station (1) and comprising at least one storage tray (2) pivotable about a substantially horizontal axis (3) between a stowed position in which it does not obstruct the field of vision of a standing person, and a lowered position in which the documents in the tray can be reached. A space (6) provided at the back of the unit may be connected to an air outlet (7). The unit has at least one light source (4) providing indirect lighting and at least one light source (5) providing direct lighting.
