Sesbanias are novel non-food legume plants whose growth is beneficial for the soil. Their stems can be cut into pieces of various sizes and used as a packaging and/or padding and/or filler and/or insulation material. Each Sesbania species gives rise to material of different hardness and size. By choosing diverse Sesbania species, of different degrees of maturity, by cutting these into appropriate lengths, and by mixing material from various sources, packaging and/or padding and/or filler and/or insulation material can be obtained, which exhibits a wide spectrum of properties, including density, particle size, and degree of hardness and resilience. The packaging and/or padding and/or filler and/or insulation material is environmentally-neutral and can be composted or burnt after use.
