PURPOSE:To display a video image in which aspect distortion is reduced even when a video CD recording video information of a signal system different from a system of a television section is reproduced and displayed. CONSTITUTION:Reproduced video information from a video CD 1 in compliance with the MPEG standards is decoded by an MPEG decoder 3 and becomes a digital video signal and given to a video encoder 4, in which the signal becomes a color video signal of the standard system and processed by a video signal processing circuit 6 and fed to a cathode ray tube 7. A disk discrimination circuit 9 discriminates whether the video CD 1 adopts the NTSC system or the PAL system based on reproduction information of the video CD 1. According to the result of discrimination, when the signal system of the television section differs from that of the video CD 1, deflection by a deflection circuit 8 is switched. Thus, the image displayed on the screen of the cathode ray tube 8 is expanded or reduced in the horizontal direction or the vertical direction and a video image without aspect distortion is obtained. |
