PURPOSE:To facilitate manufacture, to reduce cost, to increase accuracy and to enhance performance by providing a dent in a flat bottom passing from one end surface to the opposite end surface of a separator, and fitting a unit cell into the dent. CONSTITUTION:A separator 1 is made of a conductive oxide or a heat resistant metal and has a dent 1e formed in its center. The dent 2e is formed of a flat surface passing from one end surface 1g to the opposite end surface 1g of the separator 1 and is therefore cut by a shaping machine and has its surface finish polished by a grinding machine to enhance its accuracy of flatness. When the unit cell 3 is fitted into the dent 1e and the projections 6b of an air electrode 6 make contact with the flat surface for electric connection, both sides which are precision finished are closely fitted together to decrease contact resistance. Also, a spacer formed of zirconia or the like is interposed between the peripheral edge of the solid electrolyte layer 5 of the cell 3 and the separator 1 to provide a seal. |
