PURPOSE:To transmit a speech signal by a pager system. CONSTITUTION:Plural code books 251 to 25n of, for example, words of the Kansai region and the Kanto region and words cassified by sex, etc., are prepared at a center device (radio paging central base station), and the code book matching the speech signal from each transmission terminal is selected from 251 to 25n and used for vector quantization; and the selected code book number is sent first and a code number indicating a quantized vector is sent in order. On a pager 30, one of code books 341 to 34n is selected with book information indicating the code book number and used to decode the code number which is received thereafter, thereby synthesizing and outputting a speech. |
