The trolleys (5) are loaded and unloaded from the tailgate (8) into and out of the narrow bay (2) by dogs which drop onto the floor-level roller chain (11) running between the sprockets (14,15). The horizontal swinging arms (35) are held against the side of the vehicle during loading. The trolleys are locked in place by dropping the lever (35) to energise the rams (32) and force the arms (35) against the sides of the trolleys, squeezing them against the strake on the opposite side of the compartment. The trolleys are released for unloading by raising the control lever.
