In a tow vehicle (1) used to maneuver airplanes (11) without a draw tongue, where the chassis (5) has, between the wheels (6) of a coaxial wheel suspension, forklike holding space (7) wherein an extendable and retractable gripper-puller device (9) attached to a bucket lift (8) is used to grasp the nose wheel (10) of an airplane (11) and pull it onto the bucket lift (8) by means of two fluid-piston-cylinder units (12) which are symmetrically mounted between chassis (5) and bucket lift (8), the bucket lift (8) being pivotable, relative to the chassis (5), both about a lateral axis and, to adjust for the diagonal lie of a held nose wheel (10), about a longitudinal axis, the bucket lift (8) is hinged to swivel in all directions by means of a ball-and-socket joint (25) that is attached to the chassis (5) of the tow vehicle (1) and that engages centrally on the back side of the bucket lift (8). Further, at least one fluid-piston-cylinder unit (12) engaging on the bucket lift (8) at a distance from and above or below the ball-and-socket joint (25) can be mechanically locked and unlocked in the bucket lift (8) raised position.
