Motor-driven automatic door control method

An automatic door system powered by an electrical motor has a microcomputer based control system that limits the maximum closure force that can be applied. The force applied is a function of motor torque and this is proportional to motor current. A reference characteristic of motor current (24) is stored in memory and the first part of the characteristic is a test phase (25). The maximum actual value is monitored for a defined period (t1). If the value exceeds the maximum allowable value (26) within a second period, the drive motor is switched off.
