Cyclohexene derivs. (I) of formula (A) are new: R = 1-18C alk(en)yl, opt. with CN or at least one halogen substits, in which 1 or more non-adjacent CH2 gps. may be replaced by -O-, -S-, -CO-, -O-CO-, -CO-O- and -C=C-; A<1> = (a) 1,4-phenylene, in which 1 or 2 CH gps. may be replaced by N; (b) 1,4-cyclohexylene, in which 1 or 2 non-adjacent CH2 gps. may be replaced by -O- or -S-; or (c) 1,4-cyclohexenylene, piperidin-1,4-diyl, 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)-octylene or naphthalen-2,6-diyl; and gps. (a) and (b) may be mono- or poly--substd. by halogen, CN and/or Me; ring A = trans-1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-cyclohexenylene; Z<1> = -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH2CH2-, -CH=CH-, -OCH-, -CH2O-, -C=C- or a single bond; X = F, Cl, or halogenated 1-7C alk(en)yl or alk(en)yloxy; L = H or F; m = 0, 1 or 2. Also claimed are new cyclohexane derivs. (II) of formula (A; M<1> = trans-1,4-cyclohexylene; Z<1> = a single bond; m 1; A-X = 4,4-difluorocyclohexyl or 4-hydroxy-4-trifluoromethylcyclohexyl); and liq. crystal (LC) media contg. cpd(s).
