Operating IC engine having electronically controlled fuel injection

The control system is for an IC engine. When the fuel quantity is increased, to drive the engine from a partly loaded to a fully loaded state, and when the engine speed is increased while a predetermined combustion space temp. is not reached, the fuel is divided into pre- and main injection amounts.Alternatively the air cooling can be reduced or exhaust gases can be recirculated to the air intake. The controller can utilise signals indicating combustion noise, exhaust emission and fuel usage when dividing the fuel quantities and/or varying the air cooling or recirculation of exhaust gases. The engine operating limits are pref. related to the combustion space temp.
